How to Build a Brand Identity for Your Salon or Spa
June 8, 2026 · 6 min read
A strong brand identity is the difference between a salon that blends into every other listing on Google Maps and one that people remember, screenshot, and recommend by name.
Brand identity is more than a logo
Most salon and spa owners think of branding as 'getting a logo made.' A logo is one piece of a much bigger system. Your brand identity includes your color palette, typography, photography style, tone of voice, and the consistent way all of that shows up across your website, Instagram, business cards, and even your physical space.
Start with your color palette
Pick 2-3 core colors and use them everywhere, consistently. Inconsistent color use across your Instagram grid, website, and signage is one of the fastest ways to look unprofessional, even if each individual piece looks fine on its own.
Typography matters more than owners think
The fonts you use on your Instagram graphics, website, and price list should match. A mismatch here is subtle but it registers subconsciously as 'thrown together.' Pick one display font for headlines and one clean, readable font for body text, and stick to them.
Photography style is your biggest lever
For service-based businesses, photography does more brand-building work than almost anything else. Decide on a consistent style, natural light vs. studio lighting, close-up detail shots vs. wide shots of the space, and apply it consistently. This is what makes a feed look curated instead of random.
Write down your tone of voice
How do you talk to clients? Warm and casual? Polished and premium? Playful? Pick one and apply it consistently across your captions, your website copy, and even your booking confirmation texts. This consistency is what makes a brand feel like a real, intentional business rather than a hobby.
Where to start if you're doing this yourself
Audit your last 20 Instagram posts and your website side by side. Do the colors match? Does the tone feel consistent? Would a stranger be able to tell they're looking at the same brand? If not, that's your starting point.
